  • Ask Your General Treatment Questions and Get Them Answered Here!

This community believes in a multimodal approach to treating heroin & opiate addiction. In other words, we believe there are multiple approaches and that each approach has value. This community supports medical assisted treatment programs (MATs) and will not tolerate a disrespect to members of this community using medical treatments responsibly. We also support the 12 step method/approach to treating drug & alcohol addiction (Alcoholics Anonymous - AA & Narcotics Anonymous - NA). And while I have yet to see anyone in MATs attack anyone utilizing the 12 steps, it goes without saying that members of AA and NA should also be treated with equal respect. We are a family here and feel strongly that there are many roads to recovery. Those truly dedicated to recovery can and have conquered addiction. Addiction however, can never be fully destroyed. It can only be sent into remission, much like a cancer. But unlike cancer, people with addiction can and do live normal, healthy lives when they're living in a state of active recovery. Those who succeed know that recovery is a lifelong process and that the word "recovered" does not exist in the overall community.

This particular forum category is to ask your general questions about any and all treatment options for heroin & opiate addiction. Those of you with experience or knowledge of a particular subject are encouraged to respond.

We look forward to your active participation on this forum community :-).

    Best wishes,

I don't know what to think. Any advice from someone else would be great thanks

The only heart related side effect of Methadone is in doses above 150mg AND with a preexisting condition called prolonged qt interval. Still would be good to get it checked out, especially if you were an iv drug user. Endocarditis can be fatal. Take care.

    Michelle,

Welcome to our heroin and drug addiction and recovery discussion forum community. For any real pain or symptoms, I would see your methadone doctor and then primary care physician ASAP. Out of curiosity, how fast did you taper from 130 mg of methadone to 30mg? That's a big leap so hopefully you did it slowly. It's very possible that you are experiencing withdrawal if you went too fast. I went from 70mg to 1mg to 0mg of methadone going 1mg a week for 70 weeks and it worked very well for me. I didn't experience any withdrawal symptoms. But going faster than that could create withdrawal symptoms, though I can't tell you if what you are experiencing is related to the methadone. Please see your doctor ASAP.

    Peace and love,
